Weaving experiences of transformation with color and texture
Weaving is an ancient technique rich in culture, tradition, magic and beauty. For more than twenty years, I have practiced the ancient craft of weaving as a professional weaver. And when I sit down at my loom, I enter mythic space and time, throwing the shuttle back and forth.
"Nettles and Green Threads" is derived from a classic Grimm's fairytale of seven brothers turned into swans by a wicked stepmother. Their loving sister, under a vow of silence and persecuted by evil, gathers nettles, spins them into threads and knits the sweaters that when draped across the brothers' wings, will break the curse and release them to their human forms. It is a tale steeped in sacrifice and determination, enchantment and love. It is a story of redemption and transformation.
For me, this is the essence of my work: transformation - spiritual, physical, emotional... magic - through the weavings of intense color and luxurious texture. Nettles and Green Threads is the true art of weaving - an intuitive journey to clothe the body and illuminate the spirit.
